About the Presenter:
Vanessa Newton LCSW-S, CDWF, EMDR Trained, TCYM Certified

As the Co-Founder of SocialNote and CEO + Founder of Colors of Austin Counseling, my passion and my life’s work is centered around providing quality, accessible, and inclusive mental health resources to as many people as possible.

Before private practice, I spent over a decade working with children and adolescents, along with their families. I moved from a high-paced acute medical setting to a crisis-focused school setting. Both experiences were extremely rewarding and taught me a lot about what it takes to work with youth within family systems.

I was previously employed as a School Social Worker at KIPP Austin Collegiate High School and a Medical Social Worker at Dell Children's Medical Center and Children's Memorial Hermann in Houston, TX working in the Pediatric ICU with children and families dealing with chronic illnesses. I have experience working with grief and loss, depression, trauma, anxiety, relationship issues, career-focused counseling, psychiatric crises, parent support and adolescent issues.

These first two jobs were incredibly transformational for me, and I also know firsthand the challenges that come with the very unique and extremely important role of school-based mental health professionals.

SocialNote has been a long time dream of mine, and teaming up with my brilliant software developer husband, we were able to make this dream a reality when we launched SocialNote in 2019. Our mission is to educate and equip as many school-based mental health professionals as possible with the tools and technology needed to serve as many kids in the school system as possible.
