Who We Are + What We Believe

We hope to create ease in workflow, joy in documenting, and trust through a system that is comprehensive, supportive, and secure.

We know how much School-Based Mental Health professionals are expected to do with so few resources.

Documentation of interactions with students and families is often the last task to be completed because there are so many other needs to tend to.

We hope to provide a platform that removes the stress, dread, and burnout of case management so that the job feels sustainable and so that the professional field of School-Based Mental Health retains high-quality mental health providers that are SO needed.

Our big, wild dream:

With SocialNote supporting SBMHs, we can slow the historical inevitability of burnout and provide them with the best tools and resources to fully and effectively do their job.

Meet Vanessa and Bryan

We are a family of 4. Bryan is a senior software engineer, and I am a licensed therapist in private practice. Our daughters, 4 and 1, are our why. We already know they will be the future leaders of SocialNote!

We are both from Texas; me from McAllen and Bryan from Nacogdoches.

He is a left brain and I am a right brain. He is the calm and I am the storm.

We couldn’t be more opposite, and yet we balance each other out in every way.

I’ve been in the mental health field for over a decade. This is the work I wanted to do since I was little! I always knew I wanted to help people and give back based on my own childhood and lived experiences. Having a partnership with such a balance in skills and temperament inspired us to join forces and create something amazing based off of a pain point I had experienced in my career. I’m grateful that he is just as passionate about helping young people who are our future as I am.

For me, my career began as a hospital social worker working with children and adults who had experienced abuse and trauma. I then moved on to working in a school and I can remember one student I worked with for his entire high school career that left the greatest impact on me.

Having worked in a school, I have felt unsettled by a lot of issues that compromise the confidentiality of the student. I know how important it is to protect the personal health information of a child as it pertains to their mental health. It is crucial that schools have systems in place to ensure that no child is left untreated and that all students receive equitable access to treatment and support regardless of their needs.

I feel like I’m helping my past self and giving back to the community in a bigger way. I feel so passionate about supporting School-Based Mental Health professionals because that job at that time in my life was so meaningful to me. The kids and the families fed my soul. They taught me more than I could ever learn in a lifetime. Their innocence and vulnerability were the most powerful thing I had ever witnessed and it was an honor to be one person they could count on.

 Our Goal

We hope to set the precedent for what it means to be a safe and secure, school-based mental health program.

We hope to create a system that impacts the resources invested in school-based mental health.

SocialNote is so much more than a streamlined documentation system. It’s my way of giving back to those students and families who gave me so much without even knowing it.
